Shifting the Stress of the Coronavirus to Learn and Grow

Dear Friend of Stress Shifter,
Welcome to our Stress Shifter April Newsletter. With most of us now under a "Stay at Home" order, these are definitely unusual and potentially stressful times.  What can we do to remain calm amidst such Chaos and Uncertainty?  It is so easy to become anxious, worried, and stressed out when we don't know so many things. We don't know who has this coronavirus; we may not know if we have it; we don't know if when we go to the grocery store if we can catch it; and most of all, we don't know how long this will go on and whether we will be able to survive it physically or economically. 

It is easy to feel powerless and out of control as no one really can answer these unknowns with any certainty.   So, what can we do to manage our fears of the unknown?   For me, it has been an opportunity to spend more time in meditation; to take advantage of this time without all the usual activities that are no longer available. To go inside and get to know ourselves is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger as a person.  By becoming more mindful of our body sensations, our emotions, our fears, our thoughts, and our soul, we can discover the depths of our inner being, where we can find peace, joy, love, and strength.  

Although these are uncertain, difficult times we can build our connection to our true self, which will diminish our fear and increase our well-being.   To tap into the immense inner resources that each of us has, we will find solid ground to rest and relax into.  To have a safe place to restore our faith, our energy, and our clarity will give us the resilience to sustain our health as we go through this pandemic. 

By doing activities like meditation, yoga, music, or whatever works to keep us calm and relaxed will help relieve the stress on our immune system.  We will need to keep our immune system as stress free as we can during this time, in case we need it to fight this virus.
